Nissan and Renault to Sell Electric Vehicles in Portugal

CNNMoney reports that automakers Nissan and Renault will sell electric vehicles in Portugal in 2011. The two companies have also partnered with the Portugese government in an attempt to create a national network of charging stations.

Nissan has said it will sell electric cars globally in 2012, but the technology is still being developed. On Wednesday, Carlos Ghosn, chief executive of the French and Japanese automakers, and Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates said they would work together to raise awareness about the vehicles and try to make them easier to fuel.

Pickens Proposes Wind Power as Solution to Gas Crunch

CNN reports that billionaire oilman, entrepreneur and philanthropist T. Boone Pickens has held a press conference to unveil a new energy plan he says will decrease the United States' dependency on foreign oil by more than one-third and help shift American energy production toward renewable natural resources.

"Our dependence on imported oil is killing our economy. It is the single biggest problem facing America today," Pickens said.

UK Plans to Add Billions in Wind Power

The BBC is reporting that UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown's government is planning to add some 4,000 onshore and 3,000 offshore wind turbines as part of a £100 bn plan to boost its renewable energy resources.
