Statement of Support - NFPA 110 (2025)

Dear EGSA Members and Industry Partners,

As Chair of the Electrical Generating Systems Association (EGSA), I am writing to encourage you to support an important industry initiative advocating for Center for Medicare Medicaid (CMS) acceptance of NFPA 110 (2025), Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems. Please use the link below to sign the Statement of Support.

NFPA 110 (2025) represents the latest consensus of our industry's knowledge and experience. It incorporates meaningful advancements that strengthen emergency power system reliability, reflect current technologies, and promote improved maintenance and system performance.

Today, many critical infrastructure sectors—including data centers, Veterans Affairs medical centers, and municipalities—are already permitted to implement NFPA 110 (2025). Healthcare facilities regulated by and receiving funding from CMS, however, remain subject to regulations that reference NFPA 110 (2010), creating an unnecessary inconsistency in the application of emergency power standards across critical infrastructure.

Emergency power systems perform the same essential function regardless of the facility they protect: providing reliable backup power when utility power is lost. As an industry, we recognize the importance of allowing organizations responsible for protecting lives, property, and mission-critical operations to benefit from current consensus standards when they provide an equal or greater level of safety and system reliability.

EGSA has long supported the advancement of the emergency power industry through education, technical excellence, and the development and implementation of consensus standards. Supporting the adoption of current standards is consistent with that mission.

I encourage you to review this initiative and, if you agree, add your organization or individual support by signing the Statement of Support advocating for CMS acceptance of NFPA 110 (2025).
